Fast Workflow Using a Droplet

A few months back I created a “how to BATCH edit” video… today’s tutorial will save you even MORE time. 🙂

By creating SUPER actions with save and close BUILT IN to them, you can utilize these awesome and quick actions by incorporating them into your LR Exporting workflow.

Did you know that after you LR edit your photos you can:

EXPORT all images while allowing them to open up in Photoshop, have an action run on them which then saves and closes them – every image edited in LR&PS, finished and pretty!

Not to mention you can walk away from the computer to: eat lunch, read a book to your kids or sit down to sip a glass of wine!?

Yes, RAD… I know!!!

This video is 15minutes long (sorry it’s only my second vid tutorial), but if you know how to create an action with “save and close” built within the action, you can skip to minute: 3:23 to learn how to create a droplet!

Also I am using MICHELLE KANE ACTIONS in this video – lover her!

I hope this tutorial is great for your workflow and time management.

Cheers to LESS work time in 2013!

*the video cut off my name, boo… 🙁

I’m so excited you’re doing videos now! I’m such a visual learner and I LOVE learning from you. Are you planning another home birth? Congrats on #4! I was off of Facebook for a few months and was shoked to come back and hear the news. So excited for yall!

Awh thanks, I know it’s not super peppy… I’ll get better. It’s tough with the babes napping. We WILL indeed have another home birth! 🙂

Fantastic! I am wondering — do you do any final sharpening/high pass filter touches in PS after you have run the droplet? Right now I always export from LR in the PS format (rather than jpeg) — because I still need to run actions/tweak some things — and sharpen. Do you build all of that into your super action? Thank you for posting this!

Thanks Jenn!!! I do build a ton of things into my action – whether it’s sharpening or smoothing… or BOTH!

    Arden,

I am very new to the photography business and trying to learn as much as I can. (Especially about the business side of things.) I would say my post production is one of my stronger aspects, but I’m still shaky with LR. However, I can see the great potential in editing between it and PS! I need more practice in actions and now droplets! So thank you for sharing this tutorial! Could you provide a link to the actions you use? I know you said another photographer, but I was just wondering where I can get those.

    Thanks so much!

Awesome! Thanks for sharing….can you explain the resizing you did? Was that for web? You said long edge, 18 or 12…I am curious what that does!

    Thanks

Long edge: 18″ or 12″ meaning it’s either 12×18 or 8×12 when exported – for printing purposes.

Everything goes smoothly until I get to the export box in LR. At the bottom ‘post processing’ box I do not see as many choices as you have. The after export only has do nothing, open in PS, etc… but no choice for droplet. Any ideas?

Did you MAKE the droplet? Then you have to go to “go to export actions folder now” and ADD your droplet to the EXPORT folder. Once you add it, you should see your droplet in that drop down menu. I believe it’s on the video?

oh, okay I’ll try that. Yes I had made the droplet but wasn’t sure how to get it in the drop down menu. I’ll try again….mañana 🙂

Hi Arden! You may remember me – just a little blog stalker and follower on IG. I have been searching for ways to speed up my workflow and was curious if you still use this/droplet/s for yours (since this is little old)? I may give it a shot unless you have found something else that works better. Thank you lady!
